Violence broke out on Saturday during the Nyesom Wike-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) local government congress in Oyo State, leaving property damaged and several party members injured.

Reports indicate that incidents occurred in Bodija, Ibadan North Local Government Area, and reportedly at other designated congress venues across the state. Julius Adekunle, a member of the faction, said the attacks appeared coordinated, targeting multiple locations.

“It was clearly planned,” Adekunle said. “Reports from Ogbomoso North, Ibarapa Central, Akinyele, and Ibadan North LGAs show at least 10 of our members were assaulted. Vehicles and other properties were vandalised across the state.”

Adekunle added that the home of Chief Hazeem Gbolarunmi, former deputy governor of Oyo State, and current factional party leader in Bodija, was also attacked, with property worth millions of naira damaged in the incident.

The faction’s state chairman, Abdulrahman Akinoso, confirmed the attacks and described the situation as chaotic. He urged security agencies to investigate and hold the perpetrators accountable.

The events have intensified concerns over the security of political gatherings in Oyo State, underscoring the growing tensions within the PDP ahead of the next electoral cycle.
