A former member of the House of Representatives, Teejay Yusuf, has condemned violent attacks on Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) members,in Ibadan, Ogbomoso and other parts of Oyo State, last weekend.
Yusuf, in a statement, on Monday, described the attack as” a grave affront to democracy and the rule of law.” According to him, violence broke out during  conduct of congresses organised by the Abdulraham Mohammed led faction of the party.
The former lawmaker noted that the Mohammed led caretaker committee, with  Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary,  is the only one recognized by the law courts and the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC), adding that any other group are mere interlopers.
According to him,  the residence of former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Hazeem Gbolarumi, located in the Bodija area of Ibadan, was reportedly attacked, while there were also alleged assaults on party members in several local government areas including Ibadan North, Ogbomoso South, Ibarapa Central and Akinyele.
Yusuf, who noted  that dozens of vehicles and property estimated at over ₦250 million were allegedly destroyed, stated  that several individuals were reportedly injured in the process.
“The attacks represent a deeply troubling descent into political intolerance and violence. Our congresses across the country were organised in strict compliance with directives issued by the legally recognised leadership of the party.
He urged the Nigeria Police Force, particularly the Oyo State command, to conduct a thorough probe into the attacks and bring all those responsible to justice.
“Democracy cannot thrive where political differences are settled through intimidation, mob action and violent disruption,” he said.
