The Oyo State Police Command has intensified efforts to strengthen community policing through strategic engagement with traditional leaders and grassroots security stakeholders in Ibadanland.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, led the initiative during a meeting with Mogajis, traditional leadership representatives, and members of the Ibadan Peace and Security Initiative, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and enhanced public safety across the state.
The stakeholder delegation was led by Mogaji Asimiyu Ariori, President of all Mogajis in Ibadanland; Mogaji Dr. Nurudeen Akinade, Coordinator of the Ibadan Peace and Security Initiative; and Baale F.D. Ige, Head of all Baales in Ibadanland.
During the engagement, the community leaders commended the Police Command for its consistent support, prompt response to distress calls, and sustained collaboration with local structures in maintaining peace and security. They noted that the Ibadan Peace and Security Initiative was designed to complement the intelligence framework of the Nigeria Police Force by providing credible, timely, and actionable information to support policing operations.
The stakeholders emphasized that effective modern policing relies heavily on strong community partnerships and accurate local intelligence. They also referenced remarks by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, who had earlier underscored the importance of collaboration between residents and security agencies, stressing that local communities possess critical knowledge of their environment.

Assuring the police of their readiness, the stakeholders stated that members of the initiative have undergone necessary training and are equipped to support intelligence gathering and dissemination for improved security outcomes.
In his response, CP Olugbenga lauded the initiative and commended the Olubadan for his leadership and commitment to security collaboration. He also praised the Mogajis for their role in fostering unity and cooperation between traditional institutions and law enforcement agencies.
The police chief reiterated that trust, partnership, and timely intelligence sharing are essential for effective policing, assuring that the Command would continue to deepen collaboration with community stakeholders.
A major highlight of the engagement was the “Know Your DPO” segment, where contact details of Divisional Police Officers and Area Commanders were shared with participants. The initiative is expected to enhance communication, improve response time to incidents, and strengthen grassroots policing.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property through proactive strategies, strengthened community engagement, and improved intelligence collaboration across Oyo State.
