Oyo APC elects new executives as ex-deputy governor Adeyemo emerges chairman

A former deputy governor of Oyo State, Chief Moses Alake Adeyemo, has emerged as the new chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

Adeyemo was officially announced as chairman at the party’s state congress held at the Liberty Stadium, Ibadan, on Tuesday. The announcement was made by Mr Afeez Bolaji Repete, a former APC national youth leader and secretary of the party’s ad hoc zoning committee, under the supervision of the congress committee constituted by the party’s national leadership in Abuja.

In his acceptance speech, Adeyemo pledged to run an inclusive administration that would accommodate all tendencies within the party. He promised to prioritise unity, discipline and grassroots mobilisation, assuring members that the new executive would reposition the APC as a formidable political force in Oyo State.

Also elected at the congress was Mr Wasiu Olawale Sadare, who retained his position as publicity secretary. Dr Taofeek Lamidi emerged as deputy chairman, while Barrister Fatai Adesina was elected secretary. Hon Lukman Owonikoko was announced as assistant secretary alongside other executive members.

Chief Adeyemo previously served as deputy governor of Oyo State from 2011 to 2019 under the administration of the late former governor, Abiola Ajimobi.

Recall that stakeholders in the party had earlier agreed on a zoning arrangement ahead of the congress to ensure inclusiveness and balance across the 33 local government areas of the state.

According to a statement made available to journalists by the Oyo State APC publicity secretary, Olawale Sadare, the decision followed consultations among key leaders of the party statewide. He disclosed that an ad hoc zoning committee was constituted to allocate positions in the State Executive Committee among the local government chapters.

The committee is chaired by Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle, with Mr Afeez Bolaji Repete serving as secretary. Other members include Idris Adeoye, Adesoji Adedeji, Ajiboye Sangogade and Akeem Olatunji.

Party leaders described the congress as peaceful and reflective of renewed unity within the Oyo APC as preparations intensify ahead of future elections.
