Princess Islamiyat Abiodun Oyefusi, the former Deputy Gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Lagos during the 2023 general elections, has called for calm and restraint among all parties involved in the ongoing leadership crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Following the recent impeachment of former Speaker Mudashir Obasa, Oyefusi emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and respecting the legal process, as Obasa has taken the matter to court, challenging his removal.
In a statement, Oyefusi urged stakeholders to allow the judiciary to determine the rightful outcome and called for a focus on governance over personal and party interests.
“For the sanity of Lagosians, I appeal to all stakeholders to maintain the current status quo and let the court decide the outcome,” she said. “We need peace, stability, and order in Lagos, not chaos.”
She also urged political parties to handle their internal issues privately, warning against allowing these disputes to spill into the streets of Lagos, which could disrupt daily life for residents.
“Promoting the rule of law is vital for the survival of our democracy,” she added. “We Lagosians are asking that party issues remain within the parties and do not disrupt the streets of Lagos. Let peace and order prevail while the courts do their job.”
Princess Oyefusi concluded by urging state leaders to prioritize the welfare of Lagosians over partisan concerns, and to create an environment that fosters growth, development, and peaceful coexistence.
