From Stanley Uzoaru, Owerri
Candidates from Owerri zone area of Imo State on Thursday shun the peace accord initiated by the Imo State police command to ensure a hitchfree election exercise in the State.
The peace accord which was slated at the Owerri municipal council was attended by only three candidates.
However, the exercise which has been postponed has been slated for the State police headquarters.
Announcing the postponement, the Area Commander,Owerri metropolis, David Ogenyi said this was done to douse the fears expressed by most of the candidates for not honouring the police invitation.
One of the candidate from the New Nigeria Peoples Party(NPP) Sylvester Ohalem who consented to the postponement and venue of the new exercise said it would give the other candidates confidence to attend.
Ogenyi earlier who was to supervise the peace accord said “most of them have turned it to politics, they said this venue at municipal belonged to APC,so we want to assure them that we are not supporting any candidate but to ensure a peaceful election.”
