No fewer than 500 natives of Omuanwa Community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State have benefited from a medical mission carried out by the National Association of Seadogs (Pirates Confraternity).
The organisation said the outreach was part of activities marking its 50th Konverge in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
Addressing journalists on the sideline of the medical outreach held at the Omuanwa Primary Health Care Centre on Friday, Vice President, National Association of Seadogs, Dr. Patrick Briggs, said the activity is usually part of its quarterly meetings.
He said one of the ideals of NAS is offering humanitarian services, saying one of the ways the association does that is through the medical missions.
“One of our philosophies is for humanistic ideals. That’s part of what we believe and aspire to as members of the National Association of Seadogs. So, one way for us to do that is by having this medical mission to help people in the community who don’t have easy access to medical help, “ he said.

Briggs said their motivating factor for the missions is to see people who are downtrodden get necessary help when needed.
Briggs explained that the association uses its resources and support from a few organisations to run the missions.
Chief Medical Officer of NAS Medical Mission, Dr. Odoemene Chiazor, explained that the mission had been in existence for over 13 years, adding that they do general review at everywhere community they go and attend to cases within their capacity and refer others that need secondary care where appropriate.
In his speech, Prof. Prince Chinedu Mmom, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Environment Technology (FUET), Ogoni, expressed gratitude to the association for bringing the mission to his community.
He said the mission has afforded many who cannot afford medical care the opportunity to be treated of their ailments.
