Over 12m Nigerians registered to vote next year –INEC

Following the closure of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) on July 31, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has revealed that over 12,298,944 Nigerians had completed online and in-person registration to obtain Personal Voters Cards (PVC)

The commission said on its official social media handle that of those that completed their registration, 8,784,677 were youths, 2,430,709 middle-aged, 956, 017 elderly, while 127, 541 are old. 

A breakdown in the six geopolitical zones indicated that total number of registrants in six South South states stood at 2,458,095; five South East states, 1,441,156; six South West states, 2,012,982, six states in the North Central, 2,103,024; six North East states,  1,531,070; seven states in the North West, 2,512,273 and the Federal Capital Territory, 211,341. Expectedly, Lagos State recorded the highest number of registrants with 585,629 voters, Kano State, 569,103, Delta State, 523,517, Kaduna, 479,231, Rivers, 473,924, Bayelsa, 444,652.

Yobe, Ekiti, Gombe, Borno, Adamawa, Imo, Enugu, FCT among others recorded the least.

Statement detailing statistics of registration issued by Rotimi Oyekanmi, chief press secretary to the INEC Chairman, read: “CVR Update: Quarter 4, week 16 as at 7am, Monday, August 1,2022. Fresh Registrants: 10,487,972, completed registration: 12,298,944.
