The Democratic and Leadership Alliance (DLA) has faulted the extension of the 2025 budget until 31 December 2026 by the two chambers of the National Assembly.
The Head of Media and Publicity of the DLA, Dr Tosin Odeyemi, in a statement issued yesterday, said the party was worried by the fact that the 2024 budget has not been fully funded till today, while close to nothing has been done on the 2026 budget.
Odeyemi said the party was worried because this would be the fourth time the implementation of the same budget would be extended and, with the latest extension, the Bola Tinubu-led administration has continued to fail Nigerians in even the most basic metric of governance.
According to him, the looming fiscal and economic crisis this administration has invited shows that over N35trn, which is the capital component of the 2026 budget, would be moved to 2027, thereby continuing this shambolic process of running a minimum of two budgets at a time.
He called on Nigerians to ask the Tinubu administration to account for the huge funds it received in 2025 if it could not fund the budget.

“President Bola Tinubu has at every slightest opportunity asked Nigerians to hold governors of states accountable over huge amounts accrued to them from the subsidy removal but he has not at any point told us what he does with the larger percentage of the nation’s resources and the debilitating loans he took to warrant budget implementations suffering unprecedented extensions under his leadership.
“President Tinubu has continued to show that he lacks basic fiscal knowledge of the nation’s economy and he is unfit to govern this country.
“His continued stay in office beyond May 2027 will push this country closer to the ruins and all of us must collectively reject such by voting him out at the polls in January.
“We have presented a better alternative to Nigerians and we believe only DLA will restore the dignity of this country and revive the ailing economic and fiscal processes,” he said.
