Outrage as Lagos women beaten over alleged same-sex affair

Police

Panic and confusion rocked the Egbeda area of Lagos after two women, identified as Wura Balogun and Busayo Adewoyin, were reportedly beaten by residents over allegations of engaging in a same-sex relationship.

Findings revealed that the incident, which occurred late January 2025, stemmed from an earlier encounter in December 2024 when a neighbour allegedly caught the duo in a compromising position inside one of their apartments. The neighbour was said to have secretly taken nude photos of them and later used the images to blackmail the women for several weeks.

It was learnt that when the women could no longer meet the financial demands of the blackmailer, she allegedly exposed them to other residents in the compound. The revelation reportedly provoked an angry crowd that stormed their residence on Wednesday, January 29, and subjected them to severe beating before they managed to escape.

Residents who spoke to The Sun described the incident as shameful, insisting that such acts are “against culture and morality.”

“They brought disgrace to the neighbourhood,” said one resident who declined to be named. “People around here were very angry, especially after the story spread. No one has seen them since that day.”

Checks by The Sun showed that both apartments have remained locked since the incident, while tension still lingers in the area.
