Our representatives have failed us in Abia South – Azubuike, LP chieftain

A Labour Party chieftain in Abia State, Hon. Peter Azubuike, said representatives of the people of Obingwa/Osisioma Ngwa/Ugwunagbo federal constituency have failed them and will no longer vote for leaders who have failed to attract dividends of democracy to the constituency.

He tasked the electorate not to vote any non-performing leader for a second term in the 2027 general elections.

Azubuike, who was the candidate for the Obingwa East state constituency in the 2023 election, decried the attitude of some leaders who were elected but have abandoned the people since they assumed office.

He advised that the era of giving people political positions based on sentiment or for personal settlement in the area should be over if the zone must progress politically.

“Abia North and Central zones are getting it right, Abia South is yet to embrace new phase of leadership, our people must get it right to be at par with the other zones in the state.

“We have experienced leadership failure in the past, none of our representatives has liaison office in the area. Politics is not business as people tend to believe, but service and we must have leaders who are supposed to serve us.”

He said it is natural that when there is a vacuum in leadership, the people will rise and demand for one, adding that he was prepared to fill the gap at the right time.

“We must hold our leaders accountable at all times. I want to be part of history makers, part of those that will change the narratives, those leaders who will be accountable to the people.”

Reacting to a call by the group for him to join the race to represent the federal constituency in 2027, Azubuike called for a new face of leadership in the constituency and pledged to respond to the calls for him to contest for the position soon.

Azubuike commended Governor Alex Otti for his good performance in Abia, adding that Otti has changed governance narrative in the state.

The LP chieftain said with what Otti is doing, in the next couple of years, the state will become one of the best in terms of infrastructural development.
