Kano State Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Ahmed Tijjani Auwal has explained that the government funded Ramadan feeding programme has impacted positively on the markets in the state

Auwal, the Chairman of the programme in the state,  insisted that the feeding programme has also posted a new line of economic activity for youths and women in the state.

Speaking to journalists during an inspection visit to the Ramadan feeding centres, he noted that apart from the significant religious implications, many young people working in kitchens and distribution centres are earning wages that enable them to support their families and participate actively aheadvof the Eid celebration.

“The programme has created jobs for many youths. When they earn money, they go to the markets to buy goods such as food items and clothing, which helps stimulate the local economy,” Auwal said.

He stressed that the  contractors had embarked on large-scale procurement of food items such as rice, onions, tomatoes and livestock, which had increased local demands for these items.

He lauded the program for promoting excellent religious bonds and social cohesion among people of different backgrounds in the state

“When people gather to receive food during Ramadan, they forget political differences. It strengthens unity and shows that the government cares about the welfare of its citizens,”  Auwal stressed

Auwal explained that his committee menbers had been oversighting the activities of the contractors and centres in line with the directive of the State Governor,  Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Also speaking, Commissioner for Women Affairs, Amina HOD, commended the hygiene and packaging standards at the facility, noting that the programme is not only feeding residents but also empowering women economically.
