From Ogbonnaya Ndukwe, Aba
A chieftain of Oha Ukwa la Ngwa, a socio-political group of Ukwa and Ngwa clans in Abia State, St. Moses Ogbonna, has commended Governor Alex Otti, on his developmental strides that have seen the revival of critical infrastructures in parts of the state, especially in Aba, the commercial city.
He said the governor had made remarkable effort at resuscitating the state economy by embarking on rehabilitation of key components such as roads, education and healthcare facilities to improve the citizens’ wellbeing.
Ogbonnaya, who made the commendation, however, urged the governor to urgently address the issues surrounding the suspension of work at the state-owned Integrated Shoe factory in Obingwa Council Area, established by his predecessor in office, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu.
He said structures at the site of the factory in Umukalika along the Aba/Obikabia road, had been decapitated with trained youths working in the factory suspended, stressing that there was need to restart the outfit to reabsorb sacked workers as well as provide jobs for others now roaming the streets.
The erstwhile Abia PDP organising secretary emphasised that while his group was rooting for the governor’s reelection in 2027, it would campaign for the continuation of the viable projects established by his predecessors in office like the Umukalika shoe factory. “I am no longer in politics and will be speaking on issues as I see them, without bias.
“Otti is doing well in fixing needed dilapidated infrastructures. We commend and will support him in his second tenure bid, but let him stop destroying projects built by his predecessors such as the Umukalika Integrated Shoe factory built by Okezie Ikpeazu, which they removed the roof and suspended workers,” he pleaded.
