Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti has commended the Nkporo community in Ohafia Local Government Area of the state for the establishment of a technology centre in the area.
Otti made the commendation while commissioning the Unity and Technology Centre built by the Nkporo Development Union, United States of America (NDU-USA) branch.
Represented by the Chairman of Ohafia Local Government Area, Chief Eleanya Kalu, Governor Otti said the project aligned with his administration’s shared vision for youth empowerment and digital inclusion.
Otti used the occasion, which coincided with the grand civic reception organised by the community in his honour at Nkporo Comprehensive Secondary School Field, to express his joy that the centre was not just a technology hub but would also serve as a training and preparatory ground for innovators to conduct their research work.
The Governor extolled the ingenuity, resilience, and commitment of NDU-USA, led by Mrs Nnenna Agwu, in the development of the Nkporo community and pledged his administration’s support.
The immediate past Deputy Governor of Abia State, Ude Oko Chukwu, said the building would not only serve as a civic centre but as a technological hub.
Oko Chukwu lauded Governor Otti for his administration’s transformational agenda, saying Otti has left no one in doubt of his determination and commitment to positively change the developmental narrative of Abia and its people for the better.
In her address, the President of NDU-USA, Mrs Nnenna Agwu, disclosed that the centre has a large hall with a sitting capacity of 1000, a digital computer laboratory, and an e-library.
Equally housed inside the centre are different multi-purpose and technological hubs for incubation grounds, entrepreneurship skills development, and economic empowerment.

“The Nkporo Unity and Technology Centre was born from a longing shared by our brothers and sisters in the Diaspora.
“We may live thousands of miles away, but Nkporo lives in us. Every village meeting, every fundraising event, every late-night Zoom call, this centre was behind every conversation.
“It was our heartbeat, and today, that dream is no longer a dream; it is standing gigantic before us – majestic, modern, and magnificent.”
Continuing, Mrs Agwu described the facility as “the largest mega-centre of its kind, not only in Abia State, but in the entire South East region.”
She enjoined the people of Nkporo to ensure adequate protection of the facility.
A former Commissioner in the state and the convener of the project lauded NDU-USA for the establishment of such a gigantic project.
He commended the Governor for what he has been doing for the people of Nkporo in particular and Abia State in general.
The President General of Nkporo Development Union, Chief Benjamin Emeri, had earlier informed that the facility would serve as a catalyst for digital literacy, skills manpower development, and education advancement for younger generations.
He appealed to the Governor to intervene in the lingering boundary dispute between Ukwa Nkporo and their neighbouring Edda community in Ebonyi State, which he said the Supreme Court conclusively settled in favour of Ukwa-Nkporo.
