Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti has inaugurated the recently appointed principal officers of Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers in Umuahia.
This is just as Otti has assured Abia women of the support of his government to better their lot in the state.
Inaugurating the Council which has Eze Linus Nto Mba as Chairman, Otti charged the new leadership of the council to mobilize their colleagues to assist government in fighting violent crime in the State.
The Governor informed the traditional rulers that government launched Operation Crush to tackle criminality in the State and urged the monarchs to collaborate with government to achieve the needed security in the State.
Otti stated that his administration was bringing a new Abia where government would provide social amenities beyond the urban areas, stressing that support of the traditional rulers would be critical in that direction.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Uzor Nwachukwu said that the inauguration of the ninth Council of the Abia State Traditional Rulers in the State was a landmark event as the new set of principal officers of the Council would be part of the team to do a new thing in the State.
Chairman of the Council, Eze Mba thanked the Governor for appointing them and assured that they would do their best to pilot the affairs of the council and remain committed to supporting the Governor to better the State.
Other members of the Council include, Eze Nelson Nmerengwa, 1st Deputy Chairman, Eze Franklin Nwosu, 2nd Deputy Chairman and Eze Uwakwe Ukaegbu, 3rd Deputy Chairman.
Meanwhile, Otti has assured Abia women of the support of his government to better their lot in the state.
He gave the assurance while speaking at the flag off of this year’s Abia women August delegate conference (AWADEC)held in Umuahia.
He thanked women across the 17 LGAs of the state for giving him total support during the past election, stressing that without them he would not become the Governor.
The Senator representing Abia Central, Chief Darlington Nwokocha described women as a positive force in the society and assured them that things are changing for the better in Abia State.
He thanked the wife of the Governor for organizing this year’s women August meeting and expressed the hope that important decisions that will impact positively on women would be taken.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs Ngozi Felix has earlier noted that noted that the August Delegates’ Conference is gradually becoming a movement for women participation in the development of their communities and urged all women to take it seriously.
