The Governor equally directed that the committees must be functional and should provide the necessary support to the Scheme at the grassroots, particularly in the areas of security and the general welfare of Corps members.

“I also call on all Local Government Councils, traditional rulers, opinion leaders, philanthropists and other stakeholders to give full support to Corps members undertaking Community Development Service projects.

“Always bear in mind that a renovated classroom, a health awareness programme, or a newly provided or rehabilitated water facility achieved with your support can make a lasting difference in the lives of people in the benefiting communities” Otti advised.

Otti stated that the national service remains an important instrument of national integration, giving young Nigerians from different backgrounds the opportunity to live, work and learn together.

“I therefore expect each of you to contribute meaningfully to the development of your host communities and to leave a positive mark wherever you are posted”.

Governor Otti urged the corps members to approach the programme with discipline, commitment, humility and a willingness to learn.

“Your service will not be measured only by its successful completion, but also by the impact you make, the relationships you build and the skills you acquire along the way.

He assured the corps members serving in the state that his administration was firmly committed to their welfare which he said informed the commencement of the payment of the enhanced state allowance, and the facelift given the permanent orientation camp.

He encouraged the corps members to take full advantage of the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, which is aimed at empowering participants for self-employment and wealth creation.

The Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development/Chairman, NYSC Abia State Governing Board, Nwaobilor Ananaba assured the corps members that the administration remained firmly committed to their welfare and security.

Ananaba was optimist the corps members service year in the state will be one of growth, purpose, and of lasting impact.

The NYSC Abia State Coordinator, Alhaji Yunusa Tanimu said the activities lined up for the corps members have definite purposes, adding that the experiences they will gather at the camp will provide a foundation for the responsibilities awaiting them at their places of primary assignment and their various communities.

Tanimu informed the corps members that while the service year will present opportunities, it may also bring its own challenges.

“Your ability to respond positively to those challenges will depend largely on the discipline, adaptability, knowledge and interpersonal skills you in the course  of this orientation exercise”.
