Restates commitment to people-oriented policies

Abia State Governor Dr Alex Otti has approved the immediate disbursement of N1m each to 31 verified returnees of Abia State extraction who recently returned from South Africa as a result of the xenophobic attacks.

This is as Governor Otti has reiterated his administration’s commitment to pursuing policies and programmes that advance the welfare and security of the people, while creating a conducive environment for investment and economic growth.

The approval, according to a statement, is for immediate relief as an interim support measure, and to reassure the returnees that the Abia State Government has not abandoned them in their moment of need.

The statement added that a comprehensive profiling of each returnee is currently going on to assess their individual circumstances and socio-economic realities.

“This is to enable government design appropriate interventions for sustainable reintegration and social protection coverage tailored to their specific needs.

“The gesture underscores Governor Otti’s compassion and unwavering commitment to the welfare of vulnerable persons in communities across Abia State and beyond. It also reflects the Government’s resolve to ensure that every Abian, regardless of circumstance, is given an opportunity to recover, rebuild, and contribute meaningfully to society”, the statement emphasised.

Meanwhile, Otti has reiterated his administration’s commitment to pursuing policies and programmes that advance the welfare and security of the people, while creating a conducive environment for investment and economic growth.

The Governor stated this when the newly reconstituted Board of Enyimba Economic City Development Company, led by its Chairman, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, paid a courtesy visit to him at the Governor’s Office.

Otti congratulated Mazi Ohuabunwa on his appointment as Chairman of the reconstituted board and expressed optimism that the board, comprising experienced professionals, would contribute meaningfully to the development of the State.

Ohuabunwa had earlier in his speech commended Governor Otti for his good leadership and the remarkable work his administration had been doing across Abia State in the last three years.

“Since you came, we can all proudly walk around and say we have somebody who is showing the light of what governance is all about. Especially when we talk about democratic dividends,” he said.

The Board Chairman described Enyimba Economic City as a “pan-Igbo project”, adding that the team was in Government House to explore areas of collaboration with the Abia State Government under Governor Otti’s leadership.

He assured the Governor of the board’s individual and collective support towards the success of his administration.

Other members of the delegation were Professor Barth Nnaji, Professor Osita Ogbu, Ambassador Okey Emuchay, Major-General Obi Abel Umahi (Rtd), Chief Onyeuku Chidi Ajaegbu, among others.
