The Senator representing Osun West, Lere Oyewumi, has adopted Accord Party (AP), being the party of Governor Ademola Adeleke, for the August 15 governorship election in Osun State.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Osogbo, yesterday, Oyewumi said the decision to adopt Adeleke was as a result of the internal crisis within the leadership of the PDP.

“What we are doing is to let the whole world know where members of the PDP in Osun will put their votes. You all know that there is a crisis in our party, which may affect the good governance in Osun. Governor Ademola Adeleke has secured a ticket in AP and we are adopting him as our candidate to vote for on August 15,” he said.

Also speaking, the member, representing Boluwaduro/Ila/Ifedayo Federal Constituency, Clement Olohunwa, declared, “On behalf of Mahruf Adewale in Osogbo, Bamidele Salam in Ede, Soji Adetunji in Ikirun, Mudashiru Lukman Alani in Iwo and Lanre Oladebo in Irewole/Isokan, all of us from today have become members of the Accord Party.”

Governor Adeleke explained that he left the PDP to escape the trap for his election and appreciated the party for endorsing him to contest under the AP.

“I love PDP but I have to leave to escape being trapped for my reelection. I confided in some of our leaders that I trust, we started consulting and praying to God over it. We were guided to the Accord Party, you see that the party is the first on the ballot.

“I want to urge all of you that by August 15, you should vote massively for the Accord Party, then victory is guaranteed for us.

“I thank the family of PDP because I am part of the family. I thank you all for the endorsement of today and accept it wholeheartedly. I want to thank the Accord Party for accepting me,” Adeleke said.

The PDP chairman, Sunday Bisi, explained that the internal crisis within the party did not allow them to present a candidate for the August 15 governorship election in the state.

He said: “PDP hereby directs all our structures, from the polling units to the wards, from the wards to the local governments and from the local governments to the state executive committee, to move en masse and give total, unalloyed and uncompromising support to the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke under the platform of the Accord Party.”
