Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has called for the immediate arrest of Senator Francis Fadahunsi over an alleged call for the killing of Accord Party members and their families.
Adeleke made the call during a press conference ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State.
The governor said a viral video showed the senator allegedly ordering the killing of Accord Party leaders and their families.
He alleged that Fadahunsi instructed his supporters to kill the wives and children of Accord Party leaders if the politicians could not be found.
“The second issue has to do with the viral video of a serving senator, Francis Fadanusi, who today called for the killing of Accord party leaders and their families,” Adeleke said.
“In the video, the senator even threatened that where they cannot get Accord party leaders, they should kill their wives and children.”
Adeleke also raised concerns over an alleged police directive ordering the arrest of Accord Party leaders in Osun State.
“We have credible reports that a police signal has arrived in Oshun directing immediate arrest of Accord party leaders,” he said.
“We also know that the directive includes that they should be taken to Abuja immediately and should not be released until Monday.”
The governor said he had spoken with the Inspector-General of Police regarding the reported directive.
“I have spoken to the Inspector General of Police about the reported directive to arrest Accord party leaders,” Adeleke said.
He, however, appealed to the police authorities to investigate the report, warning that any such directive would be unlawful.
“But I am appealing to him that if this development is true, it is illegal and present Nigeria as a lawless country,” he said.
The governor’s allegations come days before the August 15 governorship election, amid heightened political tensions in the state.
