The Osun State Police Command, on Saturday, announced the arrest of four suspected thieves following a raid on a criminal hideout in Osogbo, the state capital.
In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, the suspects were identified as Afeez Arole (30), Salami Idowu (49), Akanmu Afeez (37) and Adebisi Taofeek (47).
According to the police, the suspects were apprehended in connection with a case of conspiracy, burglary and stealing in the Oja-Oba area of Osogbo.
Police explained that the incident began on 1 September 2026 at approximately 10pm, when a business owner reported that his shop at Oja-Oba had been burgled, alleging that the perpetrators stole mobile phones valued at roughly N5 million.
He said that, following weeks of tracking, police operatives received credible intelligence on 22 September at around 6.30pm regarding the suspects’ whereabouts in the Oja-Oba axis.

Intelligence-led surveillance subsequently enabled officers to storm the hideout and detain the four men.
During the arrest, officers recovered two Itel mobile phones, which the shop owner positively identified as part of the stolen merchandise.
According to the police, the suspects have provided statements to the police while investigators work to establish the full extent of the operation and their respective roles.
CP Ibrahim Zungura has directed the investigating team to intensify efforts to track down remaining members of the syndicate and recover the rest of the stolen property.
He reassured Osun residents of the command’s continued commitment to proactive, intelligence-led policing to safeguard lives and property, while urging the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to law enforcement.
