The other suspects are Tijani Ismail, Akinsola Ekundayo, Ayeni Olalekan, Hammed Dauda, alias Jagaban, and Waliu Adejare.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, yesterday declared a former state chairman of the National Union of Power and Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alowonle Nurudeen, and Adeyemi Ojo, alias Sibi, chairman of the Sabo/Lagere minibus park, wanted over the killing.
Briefing journalists, Zungura said the command received a distress call on September 13, 2026, reporting that armed men had invaded Mayfair Garage, Ile-Ife, and fired sporadically, killing the victim. A fatal motor accident was also reported at the Energy Filling Station along the Ile-Ife–Ibadan Road.
He said sustained investigations by the Homicide Section, with the assistance of the Amotekun commandant, led to the initial arrest of four suspects.
According to the commissioner, further investigations resulted in the arrest of Hammed Olalekan Dauda, alias Jagaban, who was allegedly found in possession of a locally fabricated, cut-to-size firearm.
Zungura said Dauda reportedly confessed during interrogation that Alowonle had given him the weapon.
He added that subsequent operations led to the arrest of Waliu Adejare, alias Jay Jay, who was identified as Alowonle’s personal assistant.
The police alleged that the suspects were mobilised by Alowonle and Ojo, adding that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the two wanted men and other fleeing suspects.
In a separate operation, the command announced the arrest of a woman and five men suspected of armed robbery.
