In a statement issued on Wednesday on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed that operatives from the Osogbo Area Command apprehended the suspects on October 8, 2026, during targeted operations across vulnerable black spots in Osogbo.

“One of the suspects, Tajudeen Okanlawon, confessed that he was initiated into the Aye confraternity cult group in 2023 by the late Lekan Lexy.

“He stated that Lekan Lexy was killed by rival cultists during the build-up to the just-concluded gubernatorial election,” the statement read.

The police confirmed that the suspects have already been charged in court.

Meanwhile, the command has vowed to intensify intelligence gathering and tactical operations to identify, apprehend, and prosecute other individuals involved in cultism, drug-related offences, and other criminal activities across the state.
