Osun: NANS backs Oyebamiji for governor, cites clean education record

From Lateef Dada, Osogbo

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, has officially declared its support for Bola Oyebamiji, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The association cited Oyebamiji’s clean educational background as a key factor in its endorsement, believing it will help attract qualified individuals to his government.

Speaking to reporters in Osogbo on Monday, the coordinator, Owolewa Taiwo, emphasised the students’ vote of confidence in Oyebamiji, highlighting their belief that he will not rely solely on cronies or sycophants for governance. They launched a youth and students’ movement in support of Oyebamiji, based on his consistent commitment to youth development, education, and student engagement.

“His impeccable antecedents and outstanding records of excellence in public service reflect a leader who understands governance from the people’s perspective,” Taiwo stated.

The association believes that Oyebamiji has demonstrated that governance should be inclusive, benefiting all sectors of society—students, women, artisans, professionals, and civil servants. They praised his vision of running an inclusive government to ensure equitable distribution of resources across Osun State.

NANS insisted that Oyebamiji’s sterling educational background fosters hope in his ability to attract qualified personnel from various parts of the state, rather than relying on narrow factions or divisions.

In addition to endorsing Oyebamiji, the students also commended President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to the welfare and education of Nigerian students under the Renewed Hope Agenda. They acknowledged initiatives that have alleviated the financial burden on students, including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which has helped many students stay in school.

The students also expressed appreciation for various empowerment programmes, such as the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (PiCNG) and the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme, aimed at preparing Nigerian youths for global competitiveness.

“These policies reflect a government that understands that investing in students is investing in the future of Nigeria,” NANS added.
