Muslim groups have demanded the arrest and prosecution of Oro worshippers who attacked the mosque in Ilare, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
The Imam of Idi-Omo Mosque, Ilare, Ile-Ife, Alh. AbduLateef Adesiyan, and three others were reportedly injured during the attack by Oro worshippers last Thursday.
A statement jointly signed by the Chairman, Muslim Lawyers’ Association of Nigeria (MULAN), Osun State Chapter & Amir, Muslim Society of Nigeria (MSSN B-ZONE), Qaasim Odedeji, yesterday, expressed surprise that security operatives in the state have not laid hands on the attackers of the Muslim worshippers, let alone prosecuting them.
Odedeji, who also doubles as Legal Adviser, Osun State Muslim Community & Secretary, Joint Muslims Action Forum (JOMAF), said the Muslims were watching the action of the security agency and all those concerned, including the state government on the matter.
He warned against any attempt to circumvent the matter, saying that the attack was directed at Muslims, and any attempt to deny them their right will not be accepted.
He said: “I learned up till now, no arrest has been made and there are some attempts to sweep the case under the carpet. Let them know that Muslims will not sit by when the rights of other Muslims to life, dignity, and freedom of worship are being trampled upon.
“I want to call on the Commissioner of Police in Osun State to, as a matter of serious urgency, swing into action and make necessary arrests and investigations of the culprits.
“It must be understood that the attack is not about the victims alone, but all Muslims in the state and beyond, and we will leave no stone unturned to make sure that the perpetrators of the heinous crime face the music,” Odedeji added.
