A 16-year-old boy, Ismaila Abdullahi, and two others were on Monday arraigned by Osun State Police Command for allegedly assaulting a police officer, Inspector Akinremi Junior.
A 65-year-old woman, Otitoola Adunni, and his 34-year-old son, Otitoola Stephen, were arraigned alongside the minor.
The prosecutor, Adeoye Kayode, alleged that the defendants assaulted the police with AP/No 216408 by beating him up while discharging his lawful duty and thereby committed a crime contrary to and punishable under section 356 of the Criminal Code Cap 34, laws of Osun State, 2002.
In a charge sheet obtained by our correspondent, the defendants were alleged to have conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace while Stephen was alleged to have driven dangerously.
According to the charge sheet, the defendants committed the alleged crime on the 21st of January 2023 at about 3:30 pm at BCGA area, Osogbo.
They pleaded not guilty to the allegations pressed against them by the police.
Their counsels, Bose Dada and Okobie Najite prayed to the court to grant them bail in the most liberal term, promising that they will provide reliable sureties.
The prosecutor objected to the bail saying the case of assault on the police is becoming rampant.
But, the counsels noted that the offences in the face of the law are not capital offences.
Magistrate Olusola Aluko, thereby granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case till 21st February 2023, for hearing.
