Accord Party has charged voters to resist threats and inducements in the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.
The party urged voters to rise up and make informed decisions based on the achievements of its candidate, Ademola Adeleke, on August 15.
National Chairman Maxwell Mgbudem, in a statement, described Governor Adeleke as a “man of the people” whose compassionate and inclusive governance has improved the well-being of residents who yearn for, desire and deserve good governance and democratic dividends.
Mgbudem added that Adeleke’s infrastructural development, provision of social amenities, improved education, healthcare services, security and workers’ welfare are glaring testaments to his political will and administrative acumen in building a better and greater Osun State that residents and future generations will be proud of.
He added: “He has accelerated the development of Osun State and deserves a re-election to complete his people-centered projects and deliver more fruits of democracy to citizens.
“It is remarkable that Governor Adeleke achieved this feat in spite of activities of anti-democratic forces to frustrate his government by withholding billions of naira in local government federal allocations, which paralysed this critical third arm of government.
“It is only a leader with enormous political sagacity like Adeleke that can easily overcome deliberate attempts to destabilise his government and impoverish the people. He has demonstrated his capacity to govern the state and propel it to a glorious future.
“The August 15 governorship election is our chance and opportunity to appreciate Adeleke’s good work and return him to power. He is tested and trusted to pilot the affairs of Osun State for a second term in office.

“Osun State is an Accord stronghold. The people are in one accord with Governor Adeleke in fostering political stability, public safety, infrastructural development, social harmony and economic prosperity essential for the continuous delivery of dividends of democracy.
“Accordingly, Accord urges INEC and security agencies to take their statutory responsibilities seriously by remaining neutral and impartial before, during and after the election.
“The sanctity of the ballot box is what gives credibility to an election and bolsters public confidence in the democratic process. Stakeholders must protect and safeguard it in the national interest.
“Every vote must be counted and count in the overall result, and the people’s wish, will and mandate respected by all stakeholders.”
Addressing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), he said: “The Osun governorship poll is a litmus test of its readiness for the 2027 general election.
“There should be no excuse for poor performance, including any form of glitches. The commission should put its act together, adequately test-run its electoral materials to ensure they are in good condition, bearing in mind that all eyes are on the commission to conduct a free, fair, credible, transparent and inclusive election.
“The integrity of INEC is at stake. It has another opportunity to redeem its image and justify the confidence Nigerians reposed in it.”
