The Concerned Muslim Stakeholders and the League of Alfas in Osun State have declared support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate ahead of the August 15, 2026 election.

Speaking at a press conference in Osogbo on yesterday, the president and secretary of the league, Sheikh Qozeem AbdulRahaman and Mallam Abdulganiy Sahid, said the decision was influenced by what they described as alleged “deceit” by the current administration. They claimed it presented itself as a Muslim-led government while running a Christian-Christian ticket.

According to the stakeholders, Governor Ademola Adeleke sought Muslim votes during his campaign by presenting himself as a Muslim and adopting the name “Nurudeen,” but his actions did not align with that claim.

They said they assessed the major candidates, Asiwaju Munirudeen Oyebamiji of the APC, Senator Ademola Adeleke, the incumbent, and Hon. Najeem Salam of the ADC, based on track records, commitment to socio-religious balance, and political reach.

After the evaluation, the group said it “unanimously” chose Oyebamiji. The stakeholders argued that Muslims had supported Christian candidates in the past to promote unity, citing the administration of Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, a Christian who had a Christian deputy, while most senators and House of Representatives members were Christians. “Muslims supported them because there was no deceit,” they said.

“What we detest today is the systematic marginalization of Muslims under a cloak of ‘Nurudeen.’ Because of this, Osun has been led by a Christian-Christian ticket for years. Worse still, the ticket the governor intends to parade for his second term remains a Christian-Christian ticket,” they said.

“As stakeholders of the largest population in Osun State, we declare that it is not politically, economically, educationally, or socially wise for us to accept another four years of a Christian-Christian ticket. This is a legitimate concern for equity,” they added.

The league further called on politicians to remember that political power belongs to God and urged that the state should not be turned into a “theatre of war” due to individual ambition.
