Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, has urged voters in Osun State to prioritise competence, character and the interest of the people over political theatrics as they head to the polls in Saturday’s governorship election.
On Thursday, Deputy Director, Publicity of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Wilfred Osilama Ifogah disclosed that 2.3 million registered voters are eligible to participate across 30 local government areas, 332 wards, and 3,763 polling units.
While INEC said 15 political parties were cleared to participate, Saturday’s election is expected to be a two-horse race between Accord Party candidate and incumbent Governor, Ademola Adeleke and his All Progressives Congress (APC) challenger, Bola Oyebamiji.
In a message to Osun voters on the eve of the election, Dalung said the decision to be made “will shape the direction of the state for the next four years.”
“Tomorrow, I urge you to make your decision with a clear mind and a clear understanding of what is at stake,” he said.

“Choose the leadership you believe can give Osun better governance. Choose competence over empty promises, character over political theatrics and the interest of the people over personal ambition.”
Dalung stressed that democracy goes beyond winning elections, adding that it also requires respecting the choice of the people.
“And when you cast your ballot, do it peacefully and without fear,” he said.
“Whatever the outcome tomorrow, Osun will still be our Osun. The people will still have to live together, work together and build the state together.”
The ex-minister noted, “May the people of Osun make the right choice. May their will be respected. And may the Osun that emerges from tomorrow’s election be a better Osun for everyone.”
