Osun State Government has sealed off the Prism steel mill in Ilorin, Ifelodun Local Government for alleged tax evasion.
A statement by the information officer of the Osun Internal Revenue Service (OIRS), Oluwaseun Ayeni, on Friday, explained that the step was in continuation of the tax enforcement exercise of the agency.
According to him, the tax enforcement team led by the chairman of OIRS, Adesola Adewumi, gave ordered the closure of some business premises due to nonchalant attitude to tax payments and harmonized demand notice.
“Prism Steel Rolling Mill and others has been served harmonized demand notice for quite sometime to fulfil their statutory obligations to the coffer of the state government but failed to help themselves.
“The refusal to obliged with fulfilling the companies responsibility to the state led to sealing of the business premises,” he added.
Adewumi who explained that stipulated deadline have been given to all businesses in the state to pay up their bill, expressed dissatisfaction in the refusal to proceed payments to the coffers of the government.
He said all sealed businesses in the state failed to comply with payments despite the grace given by the state governor since ending of July this year.
“We are lucky to have this type of governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke in Osun State who doesn’t want any business to be sealed, giving grace till 31st of July this year to business owners to do the needful,” Adewumi said.
He therefore implored all businesses in the state to rise up to their responsibilities without given the state government the opportunity of running after them for any of their statutory obligations.
