Osun State Government has kicked off free digital skills training for the first 50 youths in the state.
Special Adviser to Governor Ademola Adeleke on SDG and Multilateral Relations, Bamikole Omishore, said the programme was online with the fulfilment of the five-point agenda of the present administration.
Omishore, who spoke during the opening ceremony at the SDG centre, Dagbolu, Ikirun Road, Osogbo, explained that 50 youths were chosen for the first set out of 1,456 youths who applied for the training.
According to him, two impactful courses, Front-End Development and UI/UX Design, have been introduced, which are now running concurrently at the SDG Centre in Dagbolu, equipping young talents with digital skills to drive innovation and sustainable development.
He explained that the goal of the initiative is to create opportunities for Osun residents to earn and compete globally. He noted that the success of the training would be measured by the number of participants who secure employment after completion, adding that discussions are already underway with various organisations, locally, nationally and internationally, interested in hiring fresh talents.
“The training process began with the submission of applications, whereby 1,456 people applied by filling out a form. Fifty participants were selected for the first cohort based on early application and proximity to the training venue.
“This training directly fulfils one of the five-point agenda of the Imole administration, which includes workers’ welfare, salaries, gratuities and pensions, boosting the state economy through business partnerships and support for the business class.
“It is also to ensure that Osun money serves Osun people through homegrown infrastructure policies, implementing people-focused social policies, such as skill-based education, affordable healthcare, state security and social security support, which this training is designed to advance, and driving agro-based industrialisation for wealth and job creation for youths and women,” Omishore said.
He disclosed that the training was organised by Skill Afrika and the SDG Office under the government of Governor Adeleke.
