Osun FA raises alarm over relegation threat to Osun United, Osun Babes

Football-2

The Osun State Football Association (Osun FA) has called for urgent government intervention to address the deteriorating conditions affecting state-owned clubs, Osun United and Osun Babes, warning that both teams are at serious risk of relegation.

In a statement released on Thursday, the association appealed to the Deputy Governor of Osun State, who also doubles as Commissioner for Sports, to take immediate steps to salvage the situation.

According to the Osun FA, both teams are struggling in their respective leagues due to poor player welfare, inadequate logistical support, and declining operational standards.

Chairman of the association, Sola Fanawopo, stressed the urgency of the situation, urging the Deputy Governor to adopt a more hands-on approach in addressing the challenges.

“It is important for the Honourable Deputy Governor to take a hands-on approach, visit the players’ hostels, inspect team buses, and attend matches to fully understand how critical the situation has become,” Fanawopo said.

He noted that the current welfare conditions have significantly impacted players’ morale and overall performance, further compounding the clubs’ struggles on the pitch.

The Osun FA warned that without swift and decisive intervention, the state risks losing its football standing, as both teams continue to hover dangerously close to relegation.

The association, therefore, called on the state government to prioritize improved welfare, enhanced funding, and better management structures to stabilize the clubs and secure their future.
