The Osun State government has engaged security agencies and other relevant stakeholders on the implementation of the state’s Integrated Transport, Traffic and Park Management Law, 2026, ahead of its enforcement.

The stakeholder engagement, held on Friday, was aimed at promoting effective traffic management, curb illegal revenue collection, and ensure orderliness in the state’s transportation sector.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the House Committee on Public Works and Transport and representative of the Irewole/Isokan State Constituency, Hon. Abiola Inaolaji, explained that the meeting was designed to familiarise participating institutions with the law’s provisions, clarify their responsibilities, and strengthen inter-agency collaboration.

According to the lawmaker, the legislation is intended to protect residents, safeguard transport infrastructure, improve the state’s transportation system, and eliminate the thuggery and violence often associated with motor park activities.

Inaolaji emphasised that enforcement must be carried out strictly within the confines of the law, warning against the harassment of motorists, unauthorised revenue collection, and the abuse of power by enforcement officers.

He added that the success of the law relies heavily on public confidence, inter-agency cooperation, and strict adherence to its rules.

The Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Zungura, described the law as a significant milestone in regulating the state’s transportation sector.

Noting that the law was signed on October 15, 2026, Zungura said, it addresses critical aspects of road management, including traffic lights, vehicle impoundments, and towing.

Addressing the issue of motorists covering or defacing vehicle number plates, the Commissioner warned that offenders would face immediate arrest and prosecution in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police.

“That’s a very general phenomenon that cuts across all the states. And because of that, the Inspector-General of Police has given a marching order to all Commissioners of Police that any such person or vehicle seen covering or defaced number plate should be arrested and prosecuted,” Zungura stated.

The Corps Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, Chief Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, also assured that the state security outfit would support the Osun State Park Management in maintaining law and order.
