The Nigeria Police Force has reaffirmed its commitment to neutrality and peaceful conduct ahead of Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu, said the police would not take sides in the contest, stressing that maintaining peace remained its primary objective.
“Our only candidate for this election is peace,” Iniedu said.
He explained that the police had been established to protect lives and property while maintaining law and order, adding that the force had intensified preparations ahead of the poll.
According to him, a drone and helicopter team had arrived earlier in the day, with security personnel conducting extensive aerial surveillance and reconnaissance across Osogbo.

Iniedu said the increased security measures reflected the importance attached to the election, which he described as an opportunity to assess the force’s operational capacity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We are very passionate about this election, as it is a test to see our capability for 2027 elections,” he said.
The police spokesperson’s remarks come amid heightened political activity in the state, with security agencies under pressure to ensure that voters can exercise their rights without intimidation or violence.
The police have urged political actors and residents to cooperate with security personnel and allow the electoral process to proceed peacefully.
