Nigeria Democratic Congress 2027 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election, describing the outcome as an important victory for democracy.
Obi also congratulated the people of Osun State, saying they had spoken with “courage and clarity” by reaffirming their power to choose their leaders.
In a statement shared on his X page, titled “Osun: When the People Stand, Democracy Wins,” Obi said Adeleke had earned the renewed confidence of the people through his commitment to their needs, compassion and achievements in office.
He particularly commended Osun youths for what he described as their courageous and peaceful defence of their democratic mandate.
“When citizens stand firmly to protect their votes, the forces of good can overcome the forces of darkness,” Obi said.

He urged Nigerians to draw lessons from the Osun election ahead of the 2027 general elections by remaining informed, participating actively in the electoral process and protecting their votes.
Obi also called on political actors to put the interests of Nigerians above partisan considerations and embrace peace, unity and the rule of law.
He said elections should be contests of ideas, competence, character and service rather than battles of violence.
Obi concluded by expressing hope that the Osun experience would strengthen Nigerians’ confidence in democracy and inspire greater commitment to building a just, secure and prosperous nation.
“A New Nigeria is POssible,” he said.
