The distribution of sensitive materials for Saturday’s Osun State governorship election was delayed after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had to produce new ballot papers and result sheets following the late inclusion of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) on the ballot.
INEC National Commissioner in charge of the Osun election, Kunle Ajayi, said the newly printed materials arrived late from Abuja, affecting the commission’s distribution schedule.
The commission subsequently commenced the distribution of the materials to the state’s 30 local government areas from its Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) office in Osogbo.
The SDP was added to the ballot after a Federal High Court judgment ordered INEC to recognise its candidate, Francis Ajala, and his running mate, Faseke Oladipo, for the election.

The development increased the number of political parties contesting Saturday’s election from 14 to 15.
INEC had said it was reproducing the ballot papers and result sheets to reflect the addition of the SDP candidates in compliance with the court order delivered in Abuja on July 22, 2026.
Ajayi said the commission began moving the materials to their designated locations to ensure they reached the various local government areas before voting begins.
The distribution is expected to cover all 30 local government areas ahead of the August 15 governorship poll.
