A war of words has erupted between Nigerian music star Davido and activist Omoyele Sowore over remarks made about Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The exchange started after Sowore, during a recent interview on the election, criticised Adeleke’s administration and questioned the governor’s capacity to lead the state.
Sowore described Adeleke as “brainless” and claimed he had “nothing upstairs”. He also took aim at the condition of infrastructure in Osogbo, saying some parts of the state capital resembled a “war zone”.
Davido, Adeleke’s nephew, later reposted a video of the interview on X and hit back at Sowore, describing him as an “Arindin”, a Yoruba expression referring to someone considered unintelligent.
Sowore responded by turning the insult back on Davido and directing his criticism at Adeleke.
“The real arindin is your uncle, @AAdeleke_01,” the activist wrote.
He also questioned Adeleke’s educational history and criticised the governor for backing President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election.
According to Sowore, the Adeleke family had allegedly treated Osun as a “private estate” and used the state’s resources to sustain an extravagant lifestyle.
He further described members of the family as “oppressive, corrupt, incompetent, and entitled”, while accusing them of benefiting from the hardship faced by Nigerians.
Sowore also warned that Nigerians would eventually reject what he described as the political elite’s continued control of public resources.
The dispute comes as Osun voters prepare to elect their governor, with Adeleke seeking a second term in office.
The claims and accusations exchanged by the two men have not been independently verified.
