Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has responded to Davido’s appeal for a free and fair governorship election in Osun, telling the Afrobeats star to prepare Governor Ademola Adeleke for life after politics.
Davido had, during a press conference on Wednesday, urged an unnamed Imo politician to allow the August 15 governorship election to proceed without interference, saying he had heard reports of plans to influence the outcome.
Although the singer did not mention Uzodimma by name, he appealed for peace and urged that Osun voters be allowed to decide who governs the state.
Responding through a statement issued on Thursday by his Senior Special Assistant on Electronic and Creative Media, Ambrose Nwaogwugwu, Uzodimma said Davido should direct his message to the people of Osun rather than to him.
The governor maintained that Governor Ademola Adeleke had lost the confidence of many residents and predicted that the electorate would reject him at the polls.
“The reality is that Governor Ademola Adeleke has, in the opinion of many, failed woefully in the discharge of his responsibilities. This is why many Osun voters are determined to vote him out in the August 15, 2026, governorship election,” the statement said.
Uzodimma added that indications from across Osun suggested voters were ready to embrace “a new direction” under the All Progressives Congress.
He also advised Davido to focus on helping his uncle prepare for life outside government instead of making what he described as emotional appeals.
“Rather than attempting to influence Governor Hope Uzodimma through emotional appeals, Davido should concentrate on helping his uncle prepare for life after office, as the people of Osun appear ready to cast their votes massively in favour of the APC candidate,” the statement added.
In a sharp jab at the singer, Uzodimma said Davido should “begin making preparations to officially sign his uncle as a dancer in his musical band,” insisting that Governor Adeleke would be out of office after the August 15 governorship election.
The exchange comes as political tensions rise ahead of the Osun governorship poll, with Governor Adeleke seeking a second term amid an increasingly heated campaign between the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress.
