A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, says the outcomes of the Ekiti and Osun 2026 governorship elections will be a litmus test for the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement made available to journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, the former lawmaker said the party must win both states to position itself strongly for the national polls scheduled for the following year.
He noted that a commanding victory in Ekiti on June 20 and in Osun on August 15 would consolidate President Bola Tinubu’s prospects for 2027.
“The Ekiti and Osun elections will serve as a litmus test for the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections in the country. The two are very crucial for the APC because they will be conducted a few months before the general elections. The party must win the two states,” Oyintiloye said.

He urged party members to remain united and work collectively to secure victories, adding that wins in both states would reinforce the APC’s dominance in the national political landscape and boost the party’s confidence.
On Osun specifically, Oyintiloye described the governorship contest as peculiar because the APC aims to unseat the incumbent. He expressed confidence in a smooth victory for the party, citing a coordinated strategy and robust collaboration among party leaders.
“We are confident of victory because the leaders of the party in the state — national leader Chief Bisi Akande; the Osun State leader and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola; the National Secretary, Sen. Ajibola Basiru; and the state party chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, among others — are working tirelessly for the APC’s victory,” he said.
He also praised the party’s candidate, Alhaji Bola Oyebamiji, describing him as capable, dependable and broadly acceptable within the state. Oyintiloye appealed to aggrieved APC members to set aside their grievances and rededicate themselves to ensuring a successful outcome for the party.
“The contributions of all party members will be key to the success of APC at the poll,” he said.
