The Osun State Police Command has warned cult groups against carrying out a planned protest, saying they will not tolerate any attempt to disrupt public peace or threaten lives and property in the state.
The warning followed intelligence reports indicating that a faceless group, identified as the “Congress of Cultists” and allegedly affiliated with the Neo-Black Movement (Black Axe), was planning a demonstration in the state.
In a statement issued yesterday by the command’s spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, warned individuals or groups planning to cause chaos or engage in criminal activities to reconsider their actions.
“The command is using this medium to warn any individual or group planning to cause chaos, disturb public peace, or engage in criminality to rethink their actions.
“The police and other security agencies will not stand by and allow miscreants to disrupt the state’s peaceful atmosphere or destroy lives and property. Our operatives will respond decisively and appropriately to any action capable of threatening peace and security,” the statement said.
The command advised individuals and groups with grievances to explore lawful channels for redress, warning them against violence, self-help and reprisal attacks.

On recent violence in the state, the police said discreet investigations into a recent killing had yielded useful leads.
The command disclosed that although some of the suspects identified in connection with the incident were still at large, efforts were ongoing to track them down and bring them to justice.
It appealed to members of the public with useful information about the killing to come forward, assuring them that such information would be treated with strict confidentiality.
“The Osun State Police Command will not relent until all individuals involved in the incident are arrested and brought to face the full wrath of the law,” the statement added.
Zungura also called on parents, community leaders, traditional rulers and religious leaders to counsel youths against participating in activities capable of destabilising the state.
He urged residents to remain calm and vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or other security agency.
The commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace and public order in the state .
