Osun State Commissioner of police, Ibrahim Gotan, has paraded two village heads, Baale Apeponroro, Olaitan Bashiru (53), Baale of OkeAyepe, Tajudeen Aralamo (65), and 17 other suspects arrested in connection with alleged assault of police officer in Ilobu.
Addresing journalists at the state police headquarters, Osogbo, on Monday, the CP explained that police officers were dispatched based on information that the peace of Erin-Osun and Ilobu communities were about to be compromised by certain disgruntled elements over a disputed boundary land on 24th March, 2026.
He said, “The officers arrived at the scene and dispersed the hoodlums. Subsequently, some youth of Ilobu community went weird and manhandled the Police Officers and one of the officers was dragged to Olobu’s palace where he was further subjected to inhumane treatment.
“Immediately I received the report, I quickly deployed intervention team to the affected area to restore normalcy and four suspects were arrested on that day in connection with the matter.
“Subsequently, following a sustained and intelligence-driven operation coordinated by me; on 29th March, 2026 the Command has successfully arrested an additional fifteen (15) suspects, bringing the total number of suspects arrested in connection with the incident to nineteen (19).
Other suspects are: Oluode of Ilobu, Mustau Salam (45), Jimoh Nurudeen (20), Adeboye Ashifa (63), Ajibola Segun (40), Mustapha Muwaliu (38),;Jimoh Quyum (26), Ajani Faruq (20), and Musibau Jimoh (35).
Others are: Ajani Faruq (18), Olaniyan Quadri (40), Fatai Oyawoyin (50), Basiru Olaogun (55), Mutairu Olawoyin (49),
Olawoyin Samad (18), Tajudeen Taorid (18) and Amusat Ridwan (27) who reportedly did the video of the officers.
The CP disclosed that one single-barrel gun, one live cartridge, and one cutlass were recovered from the suspects.
He warned individuals or groups of Ilobu community that perpetrated the despicable act of attacking an innocent Police Officers who went to maintain peace, saying “Let be unequivocally clear that, any person or group involved in the attack no matter the status of such people or how highly place they are, will be made to face the full weight of the law.
“The Command will not tolerate any form of lawlessness/ coordinated attack against its personnel. Decisive operation measure has been activated to track and arrest others suspects involved in the act.
“Furthermore, any attempt by individuals or groups to shield/harbor the suspect will attract severe legal consequences. The era of impunity is over. I am assuring the good people of Osun State that, all those involved in the criminal act will face the full weight of the law to serve as a deterrent to others,” the CP said
