An Osogbo Magistrates’ Court in Osun State has ordered the remand of a 37-year-old man, Ismail Saka, in a correctional centre following the absence of his counsel in a matter that was first heard on May 14, 2024.
According to the charge sheet, the defendant allegedly committed the offences on September 3, 2024, at approximately 10:30 pm in the Oba Oke area.
Saka was accused of wilfully and unlawfully damaging the window of a residential house belonging to Omidosu Michael, an offence contrary to Section 451 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol II, Laws of Osun State, 2002.
The prosecutor, Adejola Adesuyi, further stated that the defendant, acting with intent to kill, inflicted severe machete cuts on the head and body of nine-year-old Islamiyat Basiru and two-year-old Omidosu Bose. These counts violate Section 320 of the Osun State Criminal Code.

The charge sheet noted that Saka deliberately inflicted deep machete cuts on the faces of both victims with the intent to disfigure and disable them, causing grievous harm to their eyes.
These actions, according to the charge sheet, contravened Sections 335 and 332 of the state’s criminal code.
When the case came up for hearing on Tuesday, the defence counsel was conspicuously absent, drawing the ire of the court.
Presiding Magistrate Mr Adekanmi Adeyeba expressed strong displeasure over the lawyer’s absence, revoked the bail previously granted to the defendant, and insisted that the proceedings must move forward as scheduled.
