A magistrate court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, on Thursday, March 13, 2025, remanded a 30-year-old man, Ajayi Hammed, in a correctional centre for an alleged N11.1 million cosmetic products fraud.
The police prosecutor, Elisha Olusegun, told the court that the defendant unlawfully obtained cosmetic products worth N10 million from one Ojetola Sunday Oluwaseyi and converted them to his own use.
In a separate charge, Olusegun told the court that the defendant obtained fourteen cartons of CIT lotion cosmetics worth N1,120,000 from one Adeola Aniyikaye Kafila, contrary to Sections 419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol II, Laws of Osun State, 2002.
He was alleged to have committed the purported crimes between 9 and 17 January 2025 in Osogbo.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the two separate charges.

His counsel, Ibrahim Imran, urged the court to grant him bail on the most liberal terms, promising that he would stand trial.
But the prosecutor opposed the bail application, arguing that the defendant might jump bail because efforts to arrest him since January, when the complaint was lodged, had been frustrated.
Noting that the defendant does not have a fixed address, the prosecutor said the investigation might be jeopardised if the defendant were to abscond after being granted bail.
However, the defendant’s counsel urged the court to discountenance the prosecutor’s claim, stating that Section 36(5) of the Constitution presumes the defendant innocent.
Magistrate Ayilara thereby adjourned the case to 14 March 2025 for a ruling on the bail application.
