A Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, on Thursday remanded a 32-year-old man, Olamide Atoyebi, in Ilesa correctional centre for alleged cultism and illegal possession of firearms.

The defendant who claimed to be a bricklayer was alleged to have belonged to an unlawful society ‘Aiye confraternity’ and also caused a breach of peace in Osogbo.

The prosecutor, Fatoba Atoyebi alleged that the defendant, and others, now at large, committed the purported crimes on the 27th of July, 2022, in the Agunbelewo area of Osogbo.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the allegations pressed against him by the police.

His counsel, Olatunbosun Oladipupo, urged the court to release him on bail pending the determination of the allegations against him.

But, the Magistrate, Adeyomoye Adeyeba, directed the counsel to file a formal application for the bail of his client.

He ordered that the defendant should be remanded in Ilesa correctional centre and adjourned the case to 2nd September 2022 for consideration of bail.
