• Seeks lasting solution to communal dispute
From Bamigbola Gbolagunte
The Erin-Osun community in Irepodun Local Government Area of Osun State has called on the state Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke to ensure that the report of the Ifon/Ilobu/Erin-Osun boundary resolution committee was released without further delay.
The community called for lasting resolution to the communal clash among the three neighbouring communities of Ifon, Ilobu and Erin-Osun in Irepodun and Orolu Local Government Areas of the state.
Governor Adeleke had on January 25, 2025, set up a boundary resolution committee to proffer lasting solution to the age-long boundary dispute among Ifon, Ilobu and Erin-Osun communities.
About 10 persons reportedly lost their lives during the dispute, while scores of people sustained injuries and property worth millions of Naira vandalized.
The situation prompted the state government to impose a 24 hours curfew on the three towns, just as military personnel were drafted to the towns to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
But, a year after the composition of the committee, the state government has not released the report of the committee that consisted of traditional rulers from across the state, community leaders from the warring communities and members of the civil society organisations.

Although it was learnt that the committee had submitted its report, it was not clear why the state government had not made the report public.
But, the National President of Erin-Osun Progressive Union (EPU), Chief Kayode Gbadebo Olawale, while speaking at the swearing in of the newly elected executive members of the union, appealed to Governor Adeleke to release the report of the committee for the good of the community in particular, and the state at large.
This, he said, would ensure lasting solutions to the boundary disputes among the three communities.
“The step taken by the state government was laudable but further delay could be dangerous. We want permanent resolution to the crisis in order to have lasting peace and not that of the graveyard,” he said.
He also decried the poor state of roads in the community and urged the state government to assist with the rehabilitation of the roads which has made transportation difficult in the town.
“I also want to state that Erin-Osun is not subservient to other communities within the local government. The government and the political party in power should, therefore, check the lopsidedness and imbalances in the political set up, as well as appointment into positions within Irepodun Local Government Area,” he said.
