Some banks in Osun State have closed their doors to customers due to a lack of funds to pay customers, Daily Sun has gathered.
It was gathered that some banks have not been able to load their Automated Teller Machine (ATM), since Monday due to a lack of funds.
Findings showed that funds are not available at the ATM and over the canter of some banks, hence the closure of the banks.
A bank official who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent that there is no money to load the ATM and no cash inside the bank.
He said, “we tried to sort out some N50 and N20 notes to pay customers on Monday. Since then, we have been closing the doors to prevent customers from entering so that they won’t create a scene inside the banking hall.
“People have just been waiting at the ATM expecting that we will load the machine. We were forced to tell them that we didn’t have the cash to load on Tuesday. When we discovered that people refused to go, we shut the doors.
“All our branches in Osogbo have been closed. We worked till almost 2pm on Thursday before we closed.
“We are not the only bank affected. If you go to other banks, you will see that you can hardly see four ATMs dispensing money in the whole of Osogbo. There is no money,” he added.
A security source in another bank stated that they were asked to shut the doors when people queued to enter, hoping to withdraw inside the bank.
He said, “the lower denomination that they are giving people inside the bank has finished, and customers are rushing to enter the bank. The Manager ordered us to close the doors and tell customers that there is no money inside.”
