Osun: Adeleke promises engagement of more youths

From Lateef Dada, Osogbo

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has reaffirmed his commitment to youth development and promised engagement of more youths in his government.

Speaking at the 4th edition of the Youth Entrepreneurship Empowerment programme held in Osogbo on Wednesday, Adeleke said the theme “The Power of Youth: Rethinking Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Digital Inclusion” was timely and significant.

Represented by the Commissioner for Youth, Hon. Olagunju Olalekan, Adeleke praised the youth for their resilience, creativity, and peaceful actions in their communities. He stated, “Your commitment to the progress of our dear State is a clear sign of your love and patriotism.”

Adeleke expressed pride in the achievements of young people in entrepreneurship, sports, and technology, emphasising that their innovation strengthens hope for the future of Osun State and Nigeria as a whole.

He encouraged the youth to challenge traditional leadership models, stating, “You have the power to innovate, to inspire, and to drive meaningful change.”

Highlighting his administration’s efforts, Adeleke noted the recruitment of 10,000 Imole Youth Corps members deployed across various sectors, including teaching, healthcare, and environmental services, as a testament to his commitment.

He also mentioned the appointment of young people into key government positions and their participation in leadership programmes both locally and internationally, including opportunities in Canada.

He emphasised the importance of providing vocational and technical skills to young people to foster self-reliance and promised continued efforts to create an enabling environment for their success. “Your priorities are our priorities. Together, we will build a prosperous Osun State that offers equal opportunities for all,” Adeleke said.

Comrade Oyewale Segun, Special Adviser to Governor Adeleke on youth mobilisation and the conference convener, shared that participants would engage in meaningful discussions to generate actionable ideas addressing challenges faced by young people today, such as access to finance, business sustainability, and digital participation.

Segun also announced a partnership with SMEDAN, BOI, and CAC to train over 500 young entrepreneurs, providing them with support and free business registration to formalise their efforts.
