Says ad hoc committee is unnecessary
From Lateef Dada, Osogbo
The Ijesa People in Diaspora Foundation has described as a ‘vendetta” the politics played by Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State on the Ilesa University.
The Chairman of the foundation, Chief Akinyemi Fasakin, in a statement titled: Keeping Them Honest: University of Ilesa: Sacrificed by Adeleke on the Altar of Unnecessary Bitter Politics and Ego,’ expressed displeasure over the order by the state government directing that all activities should be out on hold.
He noted that the university should have started admission of its first session if not the order of the state government, saying “governance is supposed to be about the interests of the people but presently in Osun state, governance is about vendetta and unnecessary politics of bitterness.
Explaining the process that gave birth to the conversion of the College of Education to the university, Fasakin added that “with a well-developed academic brief and fiscal master plan, gladly, the National Universities Commission (NUC) gave approval and issued a provisional license for the University as the 220th in Nigeria.
He said, “JAMB, NYSC, and TETFund were directed to recognize the institution in subsequent operation and JAMB listed the university for admission for the 2022/ 2023 academic session, having certified all requirements for the successful takeoff of the university
“The incumbent Governor decided to play politics with no other thing than our age-long dream, suspending the already constituted governing council with the likes of Professor Isaac Adewole, a former VC UI, Professor Sola Akinrinade, pioneer VC UNIOSUN, Professor Labo Poopola a former VC UNIOSUN, Prof Mrs. Oluyemisi Obilade, a former VC Tai Solarin University and the likes of our respected High Chief Akinwande Akinola, who has now angrily resigned and Rasheed Sarumi. These are eminent Ijesa personalities with records of distinction
“The government also suspended the Vice Chancellor of the university, former provost of the College of Medicine of the Obafemi Awolowo University Prof Kayode Ijaduola, and other principal officers. Our dream of having intakes after JAMB had listed our University of Ilesa on the brochure got punctured on the altar of unnecessary politics and ego.
“Politics is supposed to be about the interests of the people but for the Osun state government, it is about vendetta.
“Applications for university for this session via JAMB are closed already. So the hope of us having intakes in the university is dashed. We the Ijesa would redeem our image by supporting all Oyetola’s candidates, particularly in the forthcoming election,” Fasakin threatened.
Also, the Asiwaju of Ijesaland, Yinka Fasuyi, described the the adhoc committee on the review of University of Ilesa as diversionary and unnecessary.
In a statement made available to Daily Sun on Tuesday, he maintained that the committee had no document to work with, saying the Chairman of the Committee, Prof Taiwo Asaolu confirmed that he has no document given to him.
