A Magistrate Court in Osogbo, Osun State, has remanded a 38-year-old man, Olusola Busayo, in the Ilesa Correctional Centre for allegedly raping a person with a disability.
Busayo, a bricklayer, was brought to court facing a one-count charge of rape, in violation of relevant laws. Adejola Adesuyi, the police prosecutor, alleged that the defendant unlawfully engaged in sexual intercourse with a lady who has special needs.
The offense falls under Section 358 of the Criminal Code (Cap 34 Vol II) of Osun State, 2002. Despite the allegations, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The defense counsel, Kehinde Adepoju, sought bail for the defendant; however, the police prosecutor opposed this request. The prosecutor argued that allowing the victim to continue seeing the defendant could reignite her trauma and exacerbate the harm she has already suffered.
Magistrate Oyindamola Daramola, subsequently ordered that the defendant be remanded in the Ilesa correctional facility and the case has been adjourned until February 27, 2026, for mention.
