• Ruling party unveils election team
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, to head the constituted party’s National Campaign Council and sub-committees for the August 15 Osun State off-cycle governorship election.
The appointment of Governor Uzodimma, who equally heads the APC Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF), was announced in a statement by the APC national secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru.
Included in the constituted campaign council are top party leaders, governors, members of the National Working Committee (NWC), principal officers of the National Assembly, ministers, lawmakers and other key stakeholders to coordinate the party’s desperation for victory in the poll.
The ruling party, in the statement, disclosed that the Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala-Buni, Senate President Godswill Obot Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, would serve as co-chairmen.
Other members of the committee include the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political and other Matters, Ibrahim Kabir Masari, who will serve as Deputy Chairman, while Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, is the Secretary of the council.
The APC equally announced the constitution of specialised sub-committees to oversee critical aspects of the campaign, including election planning and management, finance and resource mobilisation, grassroots engagement, logistics, monitoring and compliance, protocol, media and publicity, security, youth mobilisation, women mobilisation, persons with disabilities mobilisation and secretariat functions.

The party said the inauguration of the National Campaign Council and its sub-committees would take place tomorrow at the Transcorp Hilton Event Centre, Abuja.
The APC expressed confidence that the composition of the council, which cuts across its national leadership and elected officials, would provide the coordination and momentum required for a successful campaign ahead of the Osun governorship election.
The statement by the National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka read: “As contained in a notice signed by the party’s National Secretary, Basiru, the Council comprises eminent party leaders, governors, members of the National Working Committee, principal officers of the National Assembly, ministers, federal and state legislators and other key stakeholders drawn from across the country to drive the Party’s campaign towards victory.
“To ensure seamless coordination and effective execution of campaign activities, the party has also constituted specialised sub-committees covering election planning and management; finance and resource mobilisation; contact, grassroots engagement and mobilisation; logistics and campaign management; monitoring and compliance; protocol; media and publicity; security; youth mobilisation; special interest (Persons with Disabilities) mobilisation; women’s mobilisation and secretariat functions.
“The inauguration of the national campaign council and its sub-committees is scheduled to be held, tomorrow, Tuesday, at the Transcorp Hilton Event Centre,” the statement read.
