The Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) has announced that it will base its support for any political party in the August 15 Osun State governorship election solely on competence, integrity, the welfare of the people, and the capacity to deliver responsible leadership.
Speaking to journalists during an official leadership visit to Osogbo on Tuesday, the National Chairman of the DLA, Barrister Samuel Memeh, stressed that the interests of the people of Osun State remain the group’s overriding consideration.
He explained that the party was unable to field a governorship candidate because it was officially registered on February 5, 2026, after the electoral timetable and relevant guidelines for the election had already taken effect, making it impossible to meet the statutory participation requirements.
“To the good people of Osun State, the Democratic Leadership Alliance assures you that we are committed to supporting policies and leadership that promote economic development, quality education, modern healthcare, infrastructure, youth empowerment, agricultural development, and responsible governance. Osun deserves a government that places the welfare of its people above every other interest,” Memeh stated.
He emphasised that the party’s inability to field a candidate does not equate to political indifference, saying the national leadership is currently studying the political developments, governance records and policy directions of the various contenders.
“At the appropriate time, the DLA will make a principled decision on whether to endorse a candidate whose vision and philosophy align with its ideals.

“Our support, if given, will not be based on political convenience, ethnicity, religion, or personal relationships. It will be based solely on competence, integrity, commitment to the welfare of the people, and the capacity to deliver responsible leadership,” Memeh added.
He commended the Osun State Acting Chairman, Dr Tosin Odeyemi, and the state executive committee for their dedication to the party’s progress.
He urged Osun residents to maintain peace throughout the electoral process, exercise their democratic rights responsibly, and view elections as a contest of ideas and service rather than violence or intimidation.
Memeh noted that the DLA was founded to provide Nigerians with a credible political alternative centred on accountability, integrity, innovation and people-centred governance.
“We believe that Nigeria’s greatest challenge is not a lack of resources but a deficit of purposeful leadership. Our mission is therefore to develop leaders who possess the competence, character, and courage to transform our nation,” Memeh said.
